NOTHING can hurt YOU (taking responsibility)

You carry a quiet core in your mind that knows you cannot truly be hurt. It feels unnatural to be threatened by the world, and yet this sense of threat often dominates how you experience life. In this teaching, you will explore how the very events of life can trigger emotions that make you feel unsafe, while a deeper part of you remembers that peace is your nature.

We live in a world that can seem constantly demanding: you protect your body, you meet the needs of a society that values achievement, and you feel pulled into a continual sense of competition. You may feel exposed, and you may worry that something important could be taken away. The good news is that this fear is not the truth of who you are. Deep inside, there is a part of you that remembers peace as your natural state, even when life feels chaotic or frightening.

When life presents a challenge—loss of a job, a financial strain, a setback in health or relationships—your emotions respond. It is common to conclude that the event itself is what causes suffering. But the core teaching here is that the moment between the event and your emotional reaction is where your power resides. There is a doorway in that middle space, where you can notice and reframe how you respond rather than simply reacting out of habit.

This reframing is not about denying pain or pretending everything is wonderful. It is about recognizing that the feeling you experience often comes from your memory, your predictions, and your beliefs about safety. If you allow yourself to observe without clinging to a fixed story, you begin to loosen the grip of negative emotions. You do not have to paint happiness over pain; you can rest in a different viewpoint that acknowledges reality while not being defined by it.

It can feel challenging to let go of the thought patterns that say you must always control life to stay safe. Yet the invitation is simple: question the thoughts you hold about the situation. If you examine who is thinking and who is deciding what comes next, you may discover that truth is not a fleeting thought or opinion, but a deeper sense of being that remains when you stop chasing security in external events. The truth is silent and abiding; your being is its home.

With practice, you begin to see that nothing in this world can truly hurt you when you stop clinging to an imagined story of threat. The peace you seek is not earned by changing every circumstance but by resting in the openness that underlies every moment. This shift does not erase difficulties; it changes your relationship to them, allowing you to move through life with more ease and resilience.

Reflection questions: What is the middle space between an event and your emotional reaction, and how can you begin to notice it today? How might you reframe a current challenge to invite a deeper sense of peace rather than adding to the sense of threat?
