Miracles are Ordinary

What do I mean by miracles in everyday life? Far from a dramatic act that defies physical law, true miracles are subtle, mysterious, and closer than you think. The most astonishing miracle is not someone walking on water; it is that you are alive right now, right here. This moment is so incredible that your mind may struggle to believe it, and that struggle is part of what keeps you from recognizing life as it truly is.

When your mind is caught in thought, the miracle can fade from view. If you could slip free from that adult mind that suffers, becomes traumatized, or feels desperate, you would glimpse the beauty that is your natural state. The miracle lives in you before any labels, roles, or achievements. It simply is, and you do not need to earn it.

Seeing the miracle in the ordinary

The moment you recall a time when you felt truly alive, you may notice the real magic lies in not being trapped by your thoughts for even a split second. You might find yourself saying, “I love that,” or “That was fascinating,” yet the miracle itself remains silent, beyond words. There is no need to chase extraordinary sensations through new environments or possessions. If you search the senses for happiness, you may miss the source of true aliveness, which is the quiet presence beneath thinking.

Instead, try to experience life like a baby discovering everything from scratch. When you feel life as if there is nothing more basic than your own existence, ordinary tasks become sacred. Being alive is everything you are looking for, and nothing in this world can complete you. The real miracle shifts your attention away from chasing a person, a possession, or a momentary thrill toward resting in the endless ocean of your own being.

Practice: letting go and resting in the moment

This is not about denying the reality of life or the value of practical actions. You can still build a business, form relationships, and enjoy pleasure. The key is to see that happiness arising from those things is temporary if you expect them to be the source of lasting wonder. The miracle appears when you stop looking for sacredness outside and begin to rest in the present moment as it is. When your mind settles, the silence reveals what was there all along, and fulfillment returns through simple recognition of being alive.

If patterns return or the mind restless momentarily awakens, notice that this is part of the process. You are not broken; you are learning to let go. With patience, life can be integrated into daily experience, and the moment itself becomes enough. When calm returns, you may witness the ordinary offering itself as miraculous, and you will realize that nothing can take this recognition away.

What would it be like to live with the confidence that the miracle is already present in the way you are right now? How might your everyday behavior change if you practiced resting in this moment rather than chasing a future happiness?
